Building my web presence on the Atmosphere

Sure, there's at least ten-thousand options out there for building a personal website, from the beloved Wordpress, to building something custom with Astro, or just simply writing a bunch of HTML or Markdown and yeeting it up into The Cloud™ somewhere. Where's the fun in picking up something off the shelf when you could reimplement everything yourself, though?

Believe me, I've tried to stand up a personal website and/or blog many times over the past 15+ years. Quite honestly, it's never taken off, and I've tried everything I listed above before. If I was grabbing something off the shelf, I usually got it up and customized fairly quickly, but never made it very deep into the "making content" part of the equation, and my easily distracted brain will go off and embark on some new quest, and my poor website will gather dust until it eventually 503s or something. (Someday soon, hoping to actually engage on figuring out what's happening with my brain. Maybe it's just Normal Human Stuff. Maybe it's ADHD! Would love to figure that out.)

It's not that I find "making content" particularly hard. Sure, I almost always doubt whether anyone would find anything of value, and that can make it hard to get started (one of these days I'll figure out how not to muddy up my own personal value perception with the pesky thoughts of Other People). In the past, my posts, scrobbles, CV, all of my content was spread throughout many systems, and pulling it together into any sort of unified view was sort of a pain. Plus those other platform had network effects and other Cool Tricks that kept me coming back to them and posting on them, none of which my handrolled website or blog had...

I think I'm rambling a bit, what was my point? Oh yeah, so, I'm building a new personal website. You can find it at https://jzweifel.dev. Pretty basic right now (and a UI design that is 100% vibes), however it pulls together Bluesky, standard.site, and sifa.id records from my jzweifel.dev account and presents them in a single page.

I've called it Fahrenheit, and it is open source. I'm first working towards a product-like version available at https://mooring.page -- visit it and set up your first site! It will also be available for folks to run the software themselves, either as a standalone for just you, or you can run the full hosted platform.
